Tyler is the principal city of a metro area of more than 200,000 residents and a center of education and technology. In addition to the rose industry, Tyler is the headquarters for Brookshire Grocery Company, Tyler Pipe, Trane, Vesuvius USA and Cavender’s. Tyler, Texas was established in 1846 and named for President John Tyler. The community grew rapidly and was incorporated in 1850 with already more than 4,000 residents. The discovery of oil in East Texas was another major economic stimulus in the early 1930s.
